I don't want to jump blindly here. I'll need some sort of insurance that I will be able to pay the rent. So once I come up with a place to live, I intend to start looking for contract work in that area... I figure that is a good way to pay the bills for at least the first 6 months to a year while I move and establish the freelancing business.
That shouldn't be too hard to do - finding contract work is simplicity itself and is much easier than finding a permanent job. But I do have to remind myself to do it.
Dice.com and Monster.com are the best ways I have found to find that type of work... for that matter, the jobs on those sites tend to be predominantly contract work with only a few sporadic instances of full time jobs.
